Creating New Opportunities For Chicago Scholars

With more than 25 years of service to Chicago, we continue our commitment of helping low-income students attend quality private schools. The State of Illinois created a scholarship program that allows donors to help students from eligible families to attend private schools. HighSight has been selected as a Scholarship Granting Organization (SGO) for this program to serve the students of Cook County.

DONORS

SGO HighSight can receive qualified contributions from individuals and businesses to be disbursed in the form of scholarships to eligible students to attend qualified private schools.

DONORS Details

The Invest in Kids application process for taxpayers making qualified contributions to HighSight is only available online through MyTax Illinois. Taxpayers approved by the Illinois Department of Revenue (IDOR) can reserve an income tax credit equal to 75% of their total qualified contributions made to HighSight.

Potential contributors must first set up a MyTax Illinois account and be approved by IDOR before making an authorized contribution. As a potential contributor, request a Letter ID now from IDOR to avoid delays. Please allow 7-10 days to receive a Letter ID via US Mail from IDOR to complete a MyTax Illinois account. As a potential contributor, we encourage you to begin this process now so you are ready in January.

  • Step 1: Request a Letter ID at mytax.illinois.gov now
  • Step 2: After receiving your Letter ID, please activate your account at mytax.illinois.gov
  • Step 3: On January 1, reserve your tax credit as early as possible
  • Step 4: Select HighSight as your Scholarship Granting Organization (SGO)
  • Step 5: Designate Region 1 (Cook County)
  • Step 6: After receiving your Contribution Authorization Certificate from IDOR, contact HighSight to make your donation

For more than 25 years, HighSight has been partnering with high schools in the Chicago area and has made a commitment to work with students from low-income families in the area.  We stay committed to that cause, and our impact speaks volumes.  Our past several high school classes graduated from college in four years at a rate of 74% -- 8x the rate of their peers.  We can do this with even more young people if you support our efforts.

If you have any questions about choosing HighSight as a SGO, please call 312-787-9824 or email mark.duhon@highsight.org.

PRIORITY APPLICANTS

Before April 1, priority will be given to students on a first-come, first-serve basis who:

ELIGIBLE STUDENTS

An eligible student is a member of a household whose 2018 federal adjusted gross income, as determined by the Illinois Department of Revenue, did not exceed 300% of the federal poverty level and, once the child receives a scholarship, does not exceed 400% of the federal poverty level.

For the 2020-2021 school year, the federal poverty guidelines are:

In addition, the student must be eligible to attend a public elementary school or high school in Illinois in the semester immediately preceding the semester for which he or she first receives a scholarship, or is starting school in Illinois for the first time when he or she first receives a scholarship. A student must reside in Cook County for SGO HighSight to consider the application.

For purposes of determining eligibility for the 2010-2021 school year, SGOs shall use 2018 federal adjusted gross income. This amount does not include the income of children under 18 attending elementary or secondary school on a full-time basis. Foster children are deemed to have a household income that does not exceed 185% of the federal poverty level. Illinois Tax Credit Scholarships are need based and do not take academic performance into consideration.
